Hello Oak Crest!
I’m going to start beginning each newsletter by sharing with you a brief synopses of what our kiddos will be studying on Sunday mornings During His time on earth, Jesus spent time preaching about God’s kingdom. One of Jesus’ most well-known sermons is the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount is recorded across three chapters in the Gospel of Matthew. In Matthew 5–7, Jesus taught how believers should live. While Matthew 5:1-2 specifies that Jesus taught His disciples, Matthew 7:28 reveals that the crowds listened to His sermon as well. First, Jesus began with the Beatitudes. The Beatitudes describe God’s great blessings for believers. God’s kingdom belongs to the spiritually needy, God will comfort those who are sad, and God will give mercy to those who show mercy to others. Jesus gives believers reason to be glad when life on earth is hard because great rewards await in heaven. Jesus also taught how believers should live in a world that does not honor Him. Jesus called believers “the salt of the earth” and “the light of the world” (Matt. 5:13-14). He said the good works of His followers should cause others to give glory to God. Jesus taught about a righteousness that comes from the inside. God’s people had the law of Moses, but some of them—the Pharisees, in particular—were concerned mostly with the appearance of being righteous. The scribes and Pharisees looked righteous on the outside, but Jesus taught His disciples about a righteousness that comes from the inside. People who know and love Jesus have changed hearts that want to honor Jesus. SUNDAY SCHOOL Big Picture Question: Who can keep all of God’s laws? Big Picture Answer: Only Jesus obeyed God perfectly. Key Passage/Memory Verse: Matthew :33 Unit Christ Connection: Jesus taught people that the kingdom of God had come and that salvation is available to all! Hello Oak Crest!
We have a lot going on in Childrens's Ministry this week! And mark your calendars for November 15th! We will have an Oak Crest Kids Family Fun Day...activity TBD! Children in Action: This past Sunday and continuing this coming Sunday, we began studying missionaries in Indonesia in Children in Action. Part of the focus will be in providing clean drinking water in that region. A ministry called Pure Water, Pure Love provides water filters to missionaries serving in areas without clean water. The also help dig wells for the people groups those missionaries are working with. Here are some statistics about the struggle for clean water: One way our children will be celebrating these missionaries will be to collect bottled water and donate it Manna House. If you are able to donate the bottled water, please bring it before Sunday, October 26th. That evening, during our Children in Action time, we will outreach by delivering the water. If it is physically difficult for you to bring bottled water, but you would still like to help, you can make a monetary donation that will go towards the purchase of bottled water. Kids Choir: Tonight (7pm) we will have rehearsal! Like each week, we will begin with praise and worship and prayer. Then we will work on our hymn of the month and our Christmas music...don't forget...we'll be holding auditions for special parts soon! Sunday School: We are still looking for teachers for the pre-k/k class. If you are interested in signing up to teach that class for just one month, please contact me @ 405.761.6335 In Christ, Stephenie Children in Action:
