A Brief History of Oak Crest
Est. 1985 |
The Mission’s Committee of First Baptist Church of Midlothian had a desire to start a second Southern Baptist Church in Midlothian, which was growing rapidly. They contacted Jerry Hall, pastoring in Okemah, OK. He was called by FBC to begin the mission church in July 1985.
The first Sunday Service was held the last Sunday of September 1985. Many contacts were made before that first service. There were over seventy who attended that first service and almost all joined that first Sunday. The church grew rapidly that first twelve months meeting in the High School cafeteria. We then moved to new facilities on Overlook St. owned by the Midlothian Bible Church. During this time we became self-supporting and constituted as a church after being under mission status for two years. We stayed on Overlook for two years, and then moved to the present location. Jerry Hall remained our pastor for 20 years until he retired in Dec. 2005. Blain Craig became Oak Crest’s second pastor in Aug. 2006. |
