Dear Parents,
School has begun...or will soon for some of us! That means it's time for new and exciting things for Oak Crest Kids! I'm going to include some important dates at the end of this article, but I want to make sure that you are aware of some program changes taking place this fall.
Sunday School and Sunday Evening
We in the children's program, for the most part, have been pleased with The Gospel Project for Kids. It is excellent for teaching the stories in God's Word to children, connecting each one to Christ, and seeing the "big picture." However, it is missing a crucial element: bible skills. I have been looking for a new curriculum that will help us teach the kids how to study the Word, and I think we may have found it! Explore the Bible has come out with a revamped kids' curriculum. It teaches through one book at a time, teaching application and BIBLE STUDY SKILLS! In order to provide a more well rounded biblical, Christian education for our children, we are going to implement both curriculums in our children's ministry.
Because of the structure of the Explore the Bible curriculum, the Children's Team has agreed that it is more easily adapted to our Sunday School hour. The Gospel Project will move to Sunday evenings and replace TeamKid during the school year, and then we will return to TeamKid during the summer months. Three years and up will participate together on Sunday evenings. As always, nursery will be provided for children age 2 years and under. At this point, Sunday evening children's program will be referred to as OC KIDS, regardless of the curriculum used. The program change will take place on promotion Sunday, which is September 3rd. Wednesday Nights, 7pm
Kids Choir is for 1st graders through 5th graders. We will be putting on the musical "The Christmas Present" at Christmas time, working on a hymn of the month, and singing fun praise and worship songs each week! If your kids have not participated in choir in the past, now is a GREAT time to check it out! There will also be a preschool music class for 3 years through Kindergarten that will meet in the children's wing! This year, our preschoolers will be singing with the "big kids" more often and will have a special place in our Christmas musical. Nursery will be provided for 2 and under.
Promotion
Promotion Sunday will be September 3rd. Children will attend their new classes during Sunday school that morning and receive a certificate of promotion at the beginning of service. Names will be posted by the door, so you will know which room your child will be in. We need 2 more helpers to assist our lead teachers! Please pray about joining our children's team!
